Signs Your Brakes Need To Be Repaired

by Jason Lopez

There are a number of reasons you might need to bring your vehicle in for brake service. The brake pads can last anywhere from 30,000- 70,000 miles, depending on your driving habits. You might start to notice that it takes longer for your vehicle to stop than normal or hear a squealing noise when you press down on the brake pedal. You might find a yellowish fluid beneath your vehicle, which often indicates a brake fluid leak. If your brake pedal goes down further to the floor, or you are noticing trouble with how your brakes work, it's time to bring your vehicle to a brake repair shop.

Your Brake Pedal Is Different

Once you get used to driving your specific vehicle, it's easy to tell when something is different with your brake pedal. You might have problems pressing down on the brake pedal. If your brake pedal feels stiff, there is an issue with the power assist mechanism in your vehicle which needs to be addressed. If your brake pedal goes too far to the floor, this indicates there is a lack of brake fluid in your brake lines. Either problem means you need to bring your vehicle in for brake service.

There Are Noises When You Press the Brakes

A light squealing noise periodically can occur when your brakes are wet, but this is a problem when the noise is consistent. Your brake pads come with a small piece of metal that will hit your rotors once the brake pad is worn down. As it hits the rotors, the noise is going to be a loud, consistent screech. When this occurs, you need new brake pads on your vehicle. If you try to drive the vehicle with this noise, eventually it will start to grind. You will have no braking power once the grinding starts because the pads are gone.

You can cause significant damage to your rotors or drums when you drive your vehicle with the brake pads getting low. A lack of brake fluid is dangerous and will lead to a complete failure of your brake system. If there are changes in how your brakes are working, it is important to get your vehicle serviced immediately. You are putting yourself at risk if you try to drive around with brake pads that are almost gone or with a vehicle that has limited to no brake fluid left in it.

Talking About Auto Maintenance and Service

Hi there, I am Liza Plotts. I am going to use this site to share the importance of regular auto maintenance and service. Automobile engines contain a series of rapidly moving, interconnected parts. These parts rely on the delivery of oil and other fluids to stay in good running condition. Without those fluids, the engine could seize up and stop working altogether. Components throughout the suspension, brakes and transmission systems also use fluids to stay in great shape. Regular maintenance techniques ensures the seals and gaskets keep the fluid in the right place. Techs must also change out those fluids on a regular schedule to keep your automobile working right.
